LAWRENCE S. PELTZ, PH.D., LMFT
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Lawrence Peltz is a licensed clinician (Marriage, Family and Child Therapist), author, consultant and educator whose training and experience encompass the realms of psychotherapy (Ph.D., Family Psychology; California Graduate School of Psychology), education (M.Ed., University of Hawaii), and business systems (M.S., University of Southern California).
His prior clinical experience includes employment as the Director of Drug and Alcohol Outpatient Treatment in federal service at Tripler Army Medical Center; Clinical Directorship of the California Graduate School of Family Psychology's doctoral program treatment clinic and decades in private clinical practice in Marin and Sonoma Counties, California.
Long-standing interests include treatment targeted at the full range of addictions; mood disorders including anxiety and depression; working with couples while focusing on personal empowerment within their relationship and supporting clients to find meaning in their lives as they navigate through life transitions.
Dr. Peltz has taught graduate level courses in Group Psychotherapy and Intensive Family Therapy, enjoying the role of supervisor and mentor to numerous graduate students. He is also a published author in the realms of group psychotherapy, fatherhood and the application of technology as an adjunct to clinical treatment.
In addition, Dr. Peltz has presented at professional conferences on a range of topics including psychotherapy with families, addictions and computer assisted psychotherapy.
Dr. Peltz also has a long history as a consultant to individuals engaged in the upper levels of business management. His unique focus of attention to the personal developmental histories of employees and managers as they impact upon present performance and relationships has been the subject of a column in the Small Business Section of The Wall Street Journal. The article noted his effective application of family systems and systems management theory to a range of difficulties emerging in the workplace. Dr. Peltz’s focus of attention on the resolution of conflict that originated in workers, managers and business partners families of origin, often enables the consideration and implementation of solutions that would have otherwise been overlooked.
Dr. Peltz was born in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to moving to Northern California, he lived on the island of Oahu in Hawaii and currently resides in Santa Rosa, California with his wife Cathy. His adult children include daughter Jennifer and sons Aaron and Cory. Grandchildren Shelby, Evan, Lily and Piper provide endless joy, entertainment and satisfaction.
